Recording with Open Broadcaster

Hey guys,
I know a few of like to record your play and stream it with Open Broadcaster. As you've probably noticed with it's default settings the frame rate on the actual recording is very bad i.e jumping between 19 and 24FPS constantly. However it is completely possible to record at a stable frame rate with the correct settings. These are the two main thing's we used when recording the trailer footage which worked perfectly for us. So here are the too main settings tips below:

  • First of all you need to make sure you are using Game Capture as your source. Software Capturing is incredibly slow for something like a game which already uses a bunch of resources up. If you find that Sky Nations is not on the Game Capture list. You may be running Open Broadcaster in 64bit mode. You will need to make sure you are running the 32bit version in order to use the Game Source for Sky Nations(since Sky Nations is a 32bit process).
  • Secondly, you'll want to head into the Settings, then Advanced settings and change the x264 Preset to Ultrafast. This will speed up it up significantly but incur more CPU usage. This should keep your frame very stable for your recording while using Open Broadcaster.

There's not much to it. But it will certainly help your recording! If you have any more tips or questions for people don't be afraid to post them here.
