Server Issues (booting/floating in air)

Postby canj » Tue Jul 15, 2014 8:10 pm

I got my server running and listed, but when you join the world you just float in air and then when clicking it boots me to the lobby. Server isn't crashing, I tried unpacking it again but same error. Here is the readout:

1:07 PM :: Runtime .NET
1:07 PM :: Version 0.45
1:07 PM :: Directory: C:\Gameservers\Sky Nations\Server

1:07 PM :: Nations loaded succesfully.

1:07 PM :: Loading Custom items
1:07 PM :: Loaded 0 ship plans.
1:07 PM :: Map settings file(GameData/MapSettings.xml) is missing. Please create one or regenerate the map.

Does it have to do with map settings? Help!

Hey matt,
Map settings is something the server doesn't need anymore. If you're just floating in the air and it's booting you then it sounds like it's not actually correctly connecting to your server. If it's a local machine then you need to use 127.0.0.1 to connect rather than the server entry. This is basically because routers don't like loopbacking to their own IP. If it's remote then make sure hosting machines ports forwarded for the server.

Hope that helps!

Ill give it a shot. The server is running through a firewall thats really complex, and has WAY to many ways to forward ports. It seems like the server is getting listed but not pushing through anything else. I'll mess around with it.

Is there any specifics with the forwarding? TCP/UDP? Inbound/Outbound? Each game server runs differently so its hard for me to copy settings.

Basically you should just need to forward inbound/outbound UDP ports. Check your Server Settings.xml for the port you're using and forward those as UDP and hopefully you should be good. You can also change it there if something else is using the same port. The server will error and tell you though if that was the case.

If you're connecting to a local server reape5r, you need to use Direct Connect at the top rather than the server list. Port forwarding is very dependent and different on each router. So check out a site like this: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/

Which will likely have your model and make.
